Neighborhood Differences
I made my first venture into downtown Rotterdam today. It’s a complete change from where I live.
My neighborhood, near the Rijnhaven metro station, is a working-class neighborhood. It reminds me quite a bit of much of Baltimore, or DC east of 16th Street. The buildings are old, a bit run down, and there a lots of grown men that hang around during the week.
By contrast, the city centre is where the culture and soul of Rotterdam is. All the shopping is there. The buildings are clean and fresh. I can see myself spending most of my time in that part of town.
My neighborhood certainly is no Baltimore; however, it’s still a bit nerve-racking. I suppose a bit of paranoia is a good thing. It keeps me on my toes.
