It’s Finally Coming!
Will Wright, the genius behind SimCity and its progeny, has done it again. This time, the focus is on creativity and design.
EA announced yesterday that Spore will be available 7 Sep 08, still a bit of a way off, but soon enough to start salivating. The game has been a multi-year project, and many thought that it would never come at all.
According to Wired magazine, EA will release the “creature creator” portion of the game a few months beforehand, so players can begin to familiarize themselves with the design element of the game; EA is also releasing the program to players so they can “jump straight into the game”.
Spore will be released for PC and Mac (hooray!), as well as limited function versions for the Nintendo DS and mobile phones.
Linked below is a short walkthrough gallery, presented by Wired.

Belgians find unity in frites
They may not have a government, but the Belgians do have one thing: frite week.
According to the Telegraph, 98.5% of Belgians find that the lowly fried potato is the symbol of national unity. Apparently, it’s the only source of agreement amongst the entire kingdom.
Oh, did I mention that the Belgians still do not have a government?
Alternative Dispute Resolution
I’m a big fan of using alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as a means of civilly resolving problems. When I think of ADR, however, I think of mediation, conciliation, or arbitration.

For Memory’s Sake, Remember to Drink!

Apparently, drinking beer (or rather, consuming low amounts of alcohol) on a daily basis can be beneficial, if only in lab rats. According to a study from the University of Auckland, lab rats who tested better at “memory tasks” than their sober counterparts. Of course, over-consumption can lead to neurotoxicity (not to mention other social problems). Seems like this is more of a reason to have a glass or two of wine every day with dinner, like the Europeans.
