Becoming an epidemic?

without comments

The media and John McCain’s staff seems to have come down with a case of foot-in-mouth disease. The gestation period seems to vary from a period of days to a few months.

Crazytown

Welcome to crazy town. Population: These Guys

Seriously? I’m pretty sure that “Paulville” is founding the same way that most anti-government militias start: going “off the grid”, forming their own currency (which, of course, is of no value), not being “forced to do or pay for other people’s life styles you may not agree with.”

I do approve of their use of solar and wind power, though.

UPDATE: I just read the description of this fine metropolis-to-be. From the website:

Average temps range mid 90′s in the summer and low 30′s in the winter due to it’s 4,000 foot elevation, making for not too hot of summers and not too cold of winters.

I used to live in southwest Oklahoma, and I can tell you that “mid 90′s” means “low 100′s”, and “low 30′s” mean “water freezes”. Also, the “arid climate” means that a hot, burning wind will destroy you skin without even thinking about it.

Profiting from their own incompetence

without comments

Former Countrywide executives are forming a new company that will restructure sub-prime mortgage debt (at their discretion) by buying it from banks (at a discount) and profiting on the new loan.

Why is no one else complaining that the executives who created this mess are not only allowed to profit both from the creation of the problem and cleaning up their mess?

Tarnishing the Apple

Just in time for my trip to the Apple store to day to have my MBP repaired (more after its return), the Washington Post ran this story describing the pains of going to an Apple retail store.

Finale: Judge who sued dry cleaner to become former judge who lost against dry cleaner

without comments

As a final chapter to the “pants” saga, the Washington Post is reporting that Judge Roy Pearson will not be receiving his 10-year position as an administrative law judge in Washington, DC.
Nothing like closure.
I previously discussed the Pearson case here and here.

Union Scabs

without comments

In an idea created by someone with a serious irony deficiency, today’s Washington Post has a story about picketers who are hired just to protest. According to the Post, the unions have hiring the homeless, day-laborers, and students to march in picket lines.

The irony? The union doesn’t offer benefits, better hours, or any of the things organized labor “gives” (read: falsely promises) to its workers. Perhaps these professional picketers should unionize…
