Tarnishing the Apple

According to the Internation Herald Tribune, Apple has announced that it will open up the iPhone to 3rd party application developers.
Who didn’t know this was coming?

Apparently, Apple is planning to make some sort of announcement today. This is the headline from washingtonpost.com I fail to see how this is news, but all the free PR Apple gets from the large media companies must save them a fortune in advertising costs.
UPDATE: Big surprise, it’s a new iPod. You can read about it at the Washington Post. Don’t want to read about it at the Post? You can also read about it at the New York Times or BBC. Le Monde probably won’t go to press until tomorrow.
I’ve just downloaded the alpha release of Adriaan Tijsseling’s ecto blogging software. It’s a revamped version of ecto2, although “ecto3 is not ecto2″.
Among the new features, ecto3 includes a new rich-text editor, as well as support for a number of other blog APIs.
That’s about all I have right now. I’m just posting to test it out.
My Macbook Pro power adapter went up in a puff of smoke last night. I was typing on my computer when I smelled the distinct aroma of burning plastic. I looked at my computer and, behold, there was smoke coming from the magsafe connector. The computer itself is fine, but it no longer has any juice. It’s going to be about a week or so before it’s replaced (not sure why it takes so long, but I’m just glad AppleCare works out here, too).
This is probably the best time that this could happen. I’m leaving Thursday to explore parts of France, Belgium, and Luxembourg (time/money permitting). I wasn’t planning on taking my computer with me, but I wasn’t certain. Now, it seems, Apple has decided for me. Expect updates after the weekend.
