Draft Cleanup
This will be the 201st entry on my website since moving to my current hosting company. I’m rather proud of my achievement, since I honestly didn’t expect to write as much as I had. While 200 posts seems like a lot, there were many more entries that were never written. Most of the unwritten posts were related to some news story that I’d seen and thought I would share with my reader(s). A few stories that I never wrote would have been original pieces. Since there are so many stories in my draft pile that I know will never be written, I thought it might be nice to compile a list of all the stories that I would have written into one list.
Story #1: No Tunnel for Tysons, Kaine Says
This was a Washington Post story about Gov. Kaine’s decision to build the “silver line” Metro extention above ground rather than below ground through Tyson’s Corner. I would have commented about how I thought this would be a bad idea and ultimately hurt the long-term develoment of Virginia for a short-term financial savings.
Story #2: Wasteful Spending on Healthcare
This was a link to Judge Posner’s blog where he discussed the economic waste in medical spending that goes towards in extending life beyond the age of 65. Judge Posner feels that while it is natural for people to value their lives, the marginal beneifts are far outweighed by the cost. His solution (admittedly brutal) is to reduce Medicare benefits.
Story #3: The Incestuous World of the Blogosphere
This was an original piece that I was intending to write about the “blogosphere” and its ultimate lack of creativity. My complaint is that so many stories become popular though one source and spread to other soruces without attribution. I had most of the story written, aside from the example article. I just never filled in the blanks. I’m not sure I really need to.
Story #4: End of Joementum
This was a story that I would have written after Sen. Liberman lost his primary bid. I’m not sure what I was going to talk about, but I’m pretty sure I would have made fun of him somehow.
Story #5: Project Snowflake and the Law of Property
This was an original idea I had to research what the legal status of cryopreserved embryos. My ultimate goal was to argue that embryos, in the eyes of the law, are property and not people and are not entitled to any legal protection other than that of chattel. It could make for an interesting law review article, if I ever get time.
Story #6: Scientists Say They’ve Found a Code Beyond Genetics in DNA
This was a NY Times story that I found talking about a second level of encoding in DNA. The article didn’t describe the phenomenon very well, but I think the concept of multiple levels of genetic information being encoded into the genome is pretty slick.
Story #7: What “Being Green” Should Mean
This was another original piece I intended to write about the latest Green movement. I wanted to advocate that being “green” did not require one to live on a commune in Utah but simply to focus on being more efficient and on sustainable living. I’ve talked about the issue before, and I plan on doing so in the future.
Story #8: Scalia’s Constitution
This was a link to a Boston Globe story about Justice Scalia’s creative use of his position as an “Originalist” in his opinion upholding a “no-knock” rule. I would have complained, as I often do, about the Justice’s inconsistent applicaiton of both the law and his particular legal theory.
